Students in violent altercation released on bail

Six Maldivian students studying at the Lankan Day Bridge School have been released on bail from Lankan authorities after getting arrested for the involvement in a violent altercation.

The incident sparked due to the feud between two local students studying at the campus, which had started to grow hostile. Reports indicate that six students were involved in attacking another Maldivian student with knives over the conflict.

All convicted students were released on bail after conditioning them to attend court for hearing. Apart from the six Maldivian students, two Lankan students were arrested along with the lot over the same incident.

While details and identities of the students have not been disclosed by authorities, they have been questioning several Lankan students who may be linked to the offense.

The news was furthermore corroborated by the Maldivian Ambassador to Lanka Mohamed Hussain Shareef. He said "most of the students arrested fall under the juvenile category, however one of the students have been confirmed to be 19 years old."

Reports confirm that the situation had escalated into violence following days of heated exchange between two local students studying at the school. A fight ensued that resulted in a stab attack on the back of one student while another received concussions to lips and face. They were given medical attention and released since their condition was not critical.

With at least 15,000 or more locals residing in Sri Lanka, several cases in recent times had surfaced involving Maldivians.
