Maldivian parliament's Speaker Abdulla Maseeh has met with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

The parliament Speaker is visiting Russia to take part in the 137 Parliamentary Union (IPU). Maseeh reached Russia and met with the nation's president post attending a meeting at Lanka that had all parliament speakers of South-Asia attend for discussions.

The Maldivian delegate includes pro-government lawmakers apart from Speaker. The members include Kendhikulhudhoo constituency lawmaker Ali Mauroof along with Asma Rasheed of Mid-Maafannu constituency and Abdulla Rifau of South-Maafannu constituency.

While pictures of Maseeh and Russian president Putin seen in a professional engagement had been posted on social media platforms. It is still unclear the exact discussion held between the two who met during the opening ceremony of IPU.

While the parliament Speaker is attending the parliamentary union at Russia, he has been widely criticized by the opposition who question his authority on a continued basis during parliament sittings. Opposition has already claimed Maseeh has lost credibility of holding designation and they refuse to acknowledge him as the legally elected Speaker to People's Majilis - the local parliament house.
