Progressive Party of Maldives' deputy leader and Fonadhoo constituency lawmaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has urged the citizens to vote for President Abdulla Yameen to a second term or the results may become sorrowful for everyone.
He made the statement during the opening ceremony of a new PPM camp at neighboring Sri Lanka where a large number of Maldivians reside. The ceremony took place on Monday.
MP Abdulla strongly voiced on the necessity of electing President Abdulla Yameen to protect the collective interest of Maldivian citizens and protect the Islamic faith, as he deemed it a religious responsibility on everyone to elect the incumbent President for a second term.
In his speech he claimed that the Islamic faith will be wiped out should the opposition take a win during the 2018 Presidential Elections. Abdulla, however had not specified details to his reasoning.
This marks the first time PPM had initiated a political movement in Sri Lanka to boost popularity.
