Civil Court has dismissed a case filed by Raajje TV claiming damages from state government over negligence in providing protection for the station - which had eventually led to the arson attack on the station.
The station was incinerated back in October 7, 2013.
Raajje TV had filed the case at Civil Court claiming for the damages over state negligence, at a price of MVR 11.6 million. The charges pressed against state had cited the media station fell victim of arson due to Maldives Police neglecting to provide protection.
According Mohamed Nishan, the advocate representing Raajje TV, Civil Court had declared in writing the case cannot be accepted since it does not fall under handled case criteria by the court.
The writing was sent bearing signature of Civil Court's Registrar.
According to Civil Court's order, cases tried against Maldives Police cannot be accepted to Civil Court due to the regulations of National Integrity Committee which dictates such cases must be presented to the committee for trials.
However Nishan had stated that National Integrity Committee had concluded the arson attack falls under Police negligence and therefore Registrar's decision would be presented for appeal at the judges bench of Civil Court.
The Raajje TV advocate had affirmed that they are set to take the case to High Court if the necessity occurs for such.
The media station had constantly reiterated their concern over government's slow conduct in providing justice to the arson attack. Currently state had pressed charges against just one individual; Mohamed Meeaadh, Henveiru Gasva.
However the case had been stalled long since it had commenced.
