A surprising turn up at the open day of WAMCO seeking employees for Vilimale' operations had resulted in more than 200 applicants visiting for jobs.
WAMCO has planned an open day on Friday to select interested individuals for the required designations for Vilimale' operations, since the state owned waste management corporation has decided to commence at Vilimale' site from November.
Approximately 50 workers at Vilimale' site is required for which the open day was held with a turn up of more than 200 candidates for interviews.
WAMCO's Business Development Manager Mohamed Iqbal had highlighted the candidates who attended the corporation's open day were mainly Vilimale' residents.
"We had a total turn up of 280 but due to lack of necessary documents some were unable to register for the interviews. We had a total registered interviews of 240 candidates," Iqbal said.
While the cleaners and sweepers operating at capital, Male' receive a remuneration of MVR 9,000, the corporation's Business Development Manager promised an equivalent pay for the Vilimale' workforce as well.
A survey to assess the waste management conduct at Vilimale' is currently underway in order to understand the corporation's approaches to the site.
Vilimale' has been developed under a green earth or environment friendly concept with gas emitting vehicles reduced to a minimal and with electric vehicles mainly used.
The island which had seen several transitions was once a jail and even a resort island before getting transformed into the fifth district of Male' city.
