Two locals attempting escape into Syria brought to Maldives

Two Maldivians were arrested from Turkey as they were attempting to fly into the battle ridden state of Syria.

Both locals have been flown back to their homeland, Maldives.

Authorities confirm that the Maldivians were arrested by Turkish authorities and handed to Maldivian authorities accordingly. They have been stamped with a 15 day remand for each.

Reports confirm they were arrested on Friday and flown into Maldives on the same day as well. Further details were not disclosed by Maldives Police as they stated the case was being investigated.

Similarly 3 Maldivians were arrested back in September 23 as they were attempting to reach to the Syrian state.

A survey conducted by National Counter-Terrorism shows a confirmed number of 43 locals had flown to battle ridden countries to take up arms in their battles.

However several news agencies report that more than 200 Maldivians have had flown to such war torn nations and taken part in their conflicts with some getting killed in action as well.
