FPID case files have gone missing; says Deputy Speaker

The scandalous case of FPID has run into a dead-end as the Deputy Speaker of Maldivian parliament, 'Reeko' Moosa Manik states the case files related to the fraud has gone missing.

He placed his accusation on former president Mohamed Nasheed's regime, and said the case files went missing through the then parliament.

While speaking at the opening ceremony of a new Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) camp at Addu City, Manik stressed the need to investigate reasons for the case files going missing. He urged relevant government authorities to probe into the issue.

At a time when the Deputy Speaker had accused the former regime for possible negligence or irresponsibility for the FPID case files going missing, the Asset Recovery Commission had confirmed they are commencing probe into the case.

Manik had, in his speech challenged the opposition's movement and continued attempts to interrupt parliament sessions and affirmed to take necessary actions in the cause of national development.

The Deputy Speaker had furthermore taunted the opposition as he said that despite the anti-government lawmakers' movement to halt parliament sessions, the state budget will be finalized.

In his speech on Saturday night, Manik threw an olive branch to the opposition and said they were welcome to show fealty to the state and work together towards the development of Maldives. The Deputy Speaker asserted a multi-party democratic system was not introduced to bar individuals from signing up to a particular political party but to function actively in a diverse party system.
