Dunya Maumoon affected over brother's transition back to jail

Elder sister of Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker Ahmed Faris Maumoon, Dunya Maumoon has been gravely affected by the re-incarceration of him following a brief period under house arrest.

She went on Twitter to express her grief over her younger sibling taken back to jail once again. She said "sad to see you taken back" addressing her brother, Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon and added "may Allah keep you safe and give our family strength."

Son of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Faris was transferred under house arrest over an apparent renovation of the jail cell where he was kept. He was placed under house arrest on October 11.

Meanwhile a hearing of MP Maumoon's trial went ahead on Sunday over the alleged bribery charges. He has been incarcerated without a remand period until his trial proceedings conclude.

In the meantime, a case in favor Faris Maumoon, to conclude his imprisonment is in violation to regulation that was presented to High Court has stalled. The case was postponed as the MP's advocate team had filed complaint at Supreme Court over the apparent changes brought to High Court judges' panel; who had been responsible of handling the case.

While High Court's process over the case has been paused it is unclear if Supreme Court had approved the complaint case.

The Gayoom clan has been in splits following recent upheavals in the political field. While Faris Maumoon and elder sister Yumna had taken an anti-government stand, Dunya and the youngest Ghassan are employed at different government institutions.
