MTCC dredger to port at Kulhudhuffushi

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has confirmed their mega dredger will port at Kulhudhuffushi harbor sometime in the late afternoon on Wednesday.

The 92.95 meter hopper suction dredger "Mahaa Jarraafu" was traveling to the northern hub - Kulhudhuffushi - for the land reclamation process under the airport development project.

The corporation aims to complete the project of reclaiming required land area within a 180 day time frame.

Meanwhile a Malaysian party had expressed interest in hiring the hopper dredger for a project overseas. Ziyath had shared his excitement and said the deal has been discussed and its process being validated through Malaysian embassy.

The 92.95 meter hopper suction dredger boasts a 16.30 meter in width, and the vessel is capable of dredging sand from 50 meter below sea level. Mahaa Jarraafu is built to sustain a total of 3,700 cubic meter.

MTCC's cheque-book registered an amount of USD 36 million dollars into the making of the dredger, with Holland's IHC taking the responsibility of crafting the vessel at China's "Nang-Ton Rainbow Marine Technology Boat Yard."
