Parliament members had on Thursday approved the first ever supplementary budget by current government.
An additional budget worth of MVR 493 million was approved to adjust for the initially set MVR 26.8 billion budget's projected insufficiency before 2017's end.
The supplementary budget found approval in all 39 members present at the parliament chamber on Thursday's session - all pro-government lawmakers - while the opposition members had boycotted the session much like they did on Wednesday.
Supplementary budget has been assigned with MVR 300 million apportioned for state initiated health insurance scheme, Aasandha with MVR 26 allocated for the planned by-election of six constituencies announced by Elections Commission.
Apart from this health machinery and equipment procurement has been assigned with an MVR 30 million and MVR 50 million for oil and relevant item procurement.
The supplementary budget had also included MVR 40 million for regional airports development and another MVR 47 million for the digital-transition of schools and academic institutions.
Finance Minister Ahmed Munavvar had forecast a revenue of MVR 268 million through the supplementary budget, which includes income generated from revenue stamp sales and another MVR 29 million collected by reforming taxation act.
State also expects an income of MVR 231 million from three undisclosed parties.
The supplementary budget was presented to parliament's budget assessment committee on Tuesday, following this Finance Minister was summoned in front of the committee for questioning over the budget.
All 13 members of the committee coincided in voting in favor of the budget, while two opposition members had voted in favor of the budget, they were Komandoo constituency lawmaker Ahmed Nashid, owner of ADK group and Maradhoo constituency member Ibrahim Shareef.
Head of budget assessment committee, Ahmed Nihan whilst presenting the bill on supplementary budget at parliament had pointed out to have exacted professional and technical advice from both Attorney General and the Governor of Maldives.
