Nasheed slams High Court ruling over MP Faris case

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has strongly criticized the High Court ruling over alleged lawmaker Ahmed Faris Maumoon, over his appeal case's judge bench change.

The defendant, Faris Maumoon's advocacy had filed an appeal over the lawmaker's incarceration til trial completion.

As of now the case of judge bench amendment has been presented to Supreme Court for appeal, thus hindering the entire case. However the top court had stated High Court will exact ruling over the case.

Hearings of MP Faris Maumoon's case had completed days back, while the judge bench was revamped post hearings. The judge in-charge of the panel, Ali Sameer was then replaced with Shujau Usman.

Apart from the replacement of Sameer, with Usman the bench consists of the original two judges including chief judge of the panel, Abdullah Didi.

In Wednesday's trial the judges bench of High Court has concluded the ruling over the alleged lawmaker's case was legitimate regarding change to the panel. Meanwhile the hearings will commence once again over Maumoon's case.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed expressed his criticism on Twitter, slamming High Court's ruling and stating it carried no weight.

Faris Maumoon's advocate Maumoon Hameed had also expressed the same sentiment over the High Court's order.

While Maumoon has been charged with bribery and detained, the lawmaker's case has stalled post hearings.
