President inaugurates Dhaal atoll airport

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has officially inaugurated Dhaal atoll Airport, developed from land reclaimed at Kudahuvadhoo of the atoll.

The opening ceremony on Wednesday was attended apart from President Yameen, by several dignitaries of ruling party and government. This had included Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim.

Progressive Party of Maldives' (PPM) deputy leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla attended the event as well.

The airport developed at Kudahuvadhoo, which houses 3000 residents, accosted USD 20 million for the project.

A total of 62 hector land area was reclaimed from the island's lagoon for the airport development that accommodates an 1,800 meter runway with a special zone for private jets.

The airport's operator had claimed Dhaal atoll airport would be among the best constructed regional airports in the country.
