Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer has placed his concern over the possible plight of aviation professionals becoming scarce at a time airport developments is booming.
Minister Zameer made the statement while speaking at the inaugural ceremony at Dhaal atoll Kudahuvadhoo on Wednesday, and added it is prime time to train individuals in the field to accommodate for the possible job openings in various airports that are developed or under development.
He also stressed the practice of hiring trained professionals educated from specific countries should be dismissed and apt opportunity must be provided to individuals with proper academic background in the field with no regards to their country of education.
Zameer also hinted about certain economic hindrances should trained local professionals are a scarcity when national airline is planning on expanding and adding planes to the fleet.
The opening ceremony on Wednesday was attended apart from President Yameen, by several dignitaries of ruling party and government. This had included Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim.
Progressive Party of Maldives' (PPM) deputy leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla attended the event as well.
The airport developed at Kudahuvadhoo, which houses 3000 residents, accosted USD 20 million for the project. A total of 62 hector land area was reclaimed from the island's lagoon for the airport development that accommodates an 1,800 meter runway with a special zone for private jets.
