US-India commence talk on withering Maldivian situation

Talks have commenced between several dignitaries of India and US Ambassador to Maldives and Sri Lanka, Atul Keshap about the deteriorating political situation of Maldives.

Keshap met with India's Foreign Secretary Dr. Subramaniam Jaishankar on Thursday in order to discuss the ongoing political stress of Maldives and its state.

The leaders have discussed the ongoing political strife against opposition leaders as well as the terrorism charges and sentence of self exiled former president Mohamed Nasheed. They also highlighted the trial of Dhiggaru lawmaker and son of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Ahmed Faris Maumoon.

Several Indian newspapers had confirmed both leaders had discussed and shown their disapproval over the use of force and influence in tossing the no-confidence motion of parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh by the opposition.

The US Ambassador had also spoken about the budding relationship between China and Maldives as well.

While US Ambassador Atul Keshap met with Indian dignitaries to discuss Maldives, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi had cancelled his trip to Maldives in 2015 at the last minute. However he had visited all the countries in the region since then except for Maldives, where he had not graced yet.
