Ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has failed in a definite response over unassigned developer issue to Kulhudhuffushi airport.
In a press conference held earlier on Tuesday, PPM's deputy leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla who responded to a journalist's query stated that Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the initial phase of land reclamation to develop Kulhudhuffuhi's airport.
He had addressed that the project has started on official grounds.
However the deputy leader of PPM responded vaguely when the journalistic pointed out the relative difference in assigning an airport developer and land reclamation. Abdulla stated that the land reclamation process would not have commenced if an airport development was not planned already.
He choose to refrain from giving a definite answer to the query about the issue of a developer not assigned for the airport development project.
Abdulla had then accused opposition stating such rumors are concocted over fear that Kulhudhuffushi airport project has finally become a reality. His response regarding the 6 hector portion of the island's iconic mangrove being reclaimed had also been doused with frustration as he said "why are you losing sleep over the Kulhudhuffushi airport development?"
The party's parliamentary group leader and Vilimale' constituency member Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik had reiterated criticism against opposition just like deputy leader Abdulla.
MTCC has already commenced the initial phase of airport development at the island of Haa Dhaal Kulhudhuffushi, which is reclaiming lands from both the sea and mangrove. Although a Malaysian corporation was initially assigned for the task of developing the airport, the agreement had since been cancelled.
Meanwhile state government has confirmed the airport at Kulhudhuffushi will be developed strictly through government funding.
