Kulhudhuffushi lacks 180 citizenship for 'City' transition

The island of Kulhudhuffushi lacks only 180 citizenship from the northern hub transitioning into a city, according to its south constituency lawmaker Mohamed Nasheed.

During his speech at the sixth year anniversary of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) ceremony held at Kulhudhuffushi, Nasheed addressed the topic stating with the inclusion of lacking 180 citizenship to the island, the constitutional aspects of transforming the island into a city would commence.

He had urged the state to consider the concerns and requests of Kulhudhuffushi citizens who had expressed their interest in transitioning the island into a city.

According to regulations, any island of the Maldivian sovereignty is transformed into a city if the populace of the island crosses 10,000. Currently apart from the capital, both Addu and Fuvahmulah have been transformed into cities while Gaaf Dhaal atoll Thinadhoo is expected for a transitioning into a city in 2018.
