MP Faris' case cancelled on state advocate absence

The bribery allegation charged on Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker Ahmed Faris Maumoon by Prosecutor General was cancelled on Monday following absence of state representative advocate at the hearing.

With over an hour had elapsed from the scheduled time for Monday's hearing, the defendant was informed of cancellation. It is confirmed that the plantiff's lawyer is currently in India on an official trip. Prior to this Prosecutor General's office had requested for Monday hearing's cancellation via letter at the court.

Likewise the previous hearing had been cancelled on formal request of defendant Faris Maumoon, who cited additional time required by him to discuss the case details with advocates due to lack of it.

Today's hearing is among the several preliminary hearings before default, with three such hearings having concluded already.

Former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's elder son and parliament lawmaker Faris Maumoon is charged with bribery during the no-confidence motion of parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh. Maumoon is alleged for bribing several lawmakers in an attempt to lure votes in favor for their cause.

Meanwhile another case involving Maumoon is currently on trial as well; the Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker was alleged with misuse of PPM properties and character impersonation as well.
