Finance Minister Ahmed Munavvar has stated several of the development projects have been hindered due to noncooperation from opposition lawmakers and members.
Speaking at the budget assessment committee meeting on Saturday, Minister Munavvar had criticized the opposition for their apparent intervention and berating Maldives in front of international mediums and entities while government has set for the sales of bonds at international market.
Finance Minister stated the opposition's attempts to undermine the incumbent government and its initiatives in urbanization results in the possibility to lose foreign investment opportunities.
Minister Munavvar had accused the opposition for attempting to sabotage the urban development projects carried out in several islands in Maldives and it has become the reason for the challenges in acquiring foreign loan aids.
However he had urged the opposition to deliberate on the bill responsibly at parliament and place their opinion as well as support the budgetary discussions in order to provide benefit and welfare for the citizens.
State has announced a MVR 28 billion budget for 2018, leading to heavy criticism from the opposition. The prime concern being the increase of state debt and exclusion of projects from several prominent atolls and constituencies.
While opposition had excused themselves from partaking in budget deliberation at parliament sessions, they gathered at Maafannu Kunooz to express their opinion and voice concerns on it.
