President welcomes youths of Maldives to Hulhumale' City

President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has claimed the Hulhumale' City being developed is a world class venue and the youth of the country are welcome to 'migrate' their lives to the city.

In his speech at the ceremony to inauguration ceremony of the large scale housing scheme 'Hiyaa' (Shelter), President Yameen said that the youths of Maldives had been introduced to challenging livelihoods and mounting predicaments in life, which the incumbent government aims to eradicate.

President Yameen had affirmed the government aims to provide a sustainable housing scheme for the youths in the country who have faced adverse social elements due to challenging lifestyles.

The head of the state had also referred to Hulhumale' as the city of hope for everyone, including youngsters, elderly and children alike with the provision of safe abode for everyone. He had called out an open invitation for the citizens of Maldives for what could be implied as a 'mass internal migration' to the capital city region.

State has declared the construction of 36 towers under second phase of Hulhumale' development will see the enactment of 10,080 apartments with flats or 1 room, 2 rooms and 3 rooms in each tower. Government informs the public sector and civil servant employees are subjected for the grand scale housing scheme along with their families.

Government claims to provide sheltering for an estimation of 100,000 people under the social housing scheme.

This marks as the first large scale housing scheme initiated by the incumbent government in its 4 year run. The 'Hiyaa' housing scheme is reported for completion in next year.
