Tourism statistics have confirmed the bed capacity of various tourist outlets comprised has exceeded 40,000.
According to Tourism Ministry's statistics the bed capacity in all locally operated outlets in total has reached a total of 40,169 by October. This marks the highest in bed capacity recorded for the country.
This rise in bed capacity is contributed by the inception of 11 new tourist outlets last year with 25 more opening up in 2017. The current government claims to open a total of 50 new resorts before the their term end.
The ministry confirms that Maldives currently has 755 registered hospitality outlets catering tourists. This includes 131 resorts, 13 hotels and 460 guesthouses with 151 cruise safaris.
