Parliament lawmaker urges on inciting mass protests against the government's attempts to destroy cultural and heritage sites which holds historical and religious values.
The Kendhoo constituency lawmaker Ali Hussain had urged from Maldivian citizens to exhibit their criticism physically through protests and not limit their displeasure on social platforms alone.
The parliamentarian on Sunday night tweeted calling out for the preservation of cultural and historical venues which includes the Friday Mosque, Ali Rasgefaan shrine along with Kalhuvakaru Mosque and Bihuroze Mosque as historically significant sites.
Hussain had also claimed refraining from protests mean the lack of interest in preserving the history and culture of the country while he condemned the state government's targeting of heritage sites and environmental landscapes on the pretext of development and prosperity.
The lawmaker is not exclusive in his snubbing of the state's now seemingly futile attempt at the apparent degradation of one of the most significant cultural sites in Maldives. North-henveiru constituency lawmaker Abdulla Shahid also expressed over the preservation of Friday Mosque site adding that it is the only site which has is still unharmed from the various historical venues that had been perished since the current regime took over.
Furthermore, former president and elder half-brother of incumbent president Abdulla Yameen, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom who had been in a continued exchange of verbal blows with his younger kin since their fallout had also condemned the government's planned move to develop a cafeteria in block 114 - the cultural site where Friday Mosque stands.
