Illicitly acquired plots reverse post regime change

Main opposition Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) has claimed the properties acquired by state illegitimately will be reverted back to its rightful owners instantly post regime change.

A statement released on Monday by MDP had accused the government of exacting corporate damage on businesses and properties owned by famed businessman and Jumhoory Party leader Qasim Ibrahim.

MDP had condemned the government's apparent act of exercising oppression on JP leader's businesses.

The prime opposition party had accused government of illicit conduct and attempting to corrupt the businesses owned by Qasim Ibrahim, through illegal acquisition of his properties and placing financial setbacks to him by freezing his personal and corporate bank accounts without proper justification.

MDP speculates the biased crusade against Qasim Ibrahim is to fade his attempts against the government.

The opposition had claimed that any property confiscated or acquired by the state breaching the regulations and law would thus be reverted back to its rightful owners once the regime changes.

Meanwhile government had cancelled or revoked several arrangements made with companies owned by the Jumhoory Party leader. While some of the cases and completed low-tier court procedures and had proceeded to Supreme Court, MDP had no specified the cases they had referred to in their statement.
