Contradiction over budget details worrisome; ex-Prez

Former president of Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayoom says the vivid contradictions by government ministers over the state planned budget for upcoming year poses challenges and could prove unsubstantial.

His statement is a direct but unofficial jab at Islamic Minister Ahmed Ziyad who on Monday had claimed the news of construction project at the venue of Bihuroazu Mosque which houses the famous freedom fighter Bodhuthakurufaan's shrine was fallacy.

However the projected was reflected on the state budget for 20218 placing contradiction over the issue.

While the budget has been approved through parliament with the inclusion of the construction project at the vicinity of Bihuroazu Mosque - a historically significant venue - it was not properly specified whether the mosque would be demolished or not.

Gayoom had urged the government to make matters clear over the issue without placing discretion.

Islamic Minister had in return rebuffed the former president's statements claiming such falsified news were spread with the aim of creating rifts between the people and government adding the actual project was to clean the premises of the mosque and clear out the graves which had been recently discovered at the site.
