Initial hearing of 9 parliamentarians of the opposition and 3 disqualified members as per Elections Commission has been tabled at court with the 12 ordered to summon on Wednesday.
The 12 members of parliament are tried with obstructing the conduct of a government officer from fulfilling their responsibility - referring to the violent clashes at parliament chambers on July 24. Members of the opposition had broken then ranks of security command and attempted to access the parliament premises.
Court had granted a period of 10 days to the defendants to acquire assistance of an advocate during the default hearing - this is the maximum duration provided under the newly implemented criminal procedure act.
The tried parliamentarians had however received a month's period in acquiring help from lawyers as the default hearing took place on October 26.
Opposition members had specifically requested for a time frame of one month due to several advocates placed under temporary suspension. Since then several of these advocates have received revokes on their temporary cease.
