Ex-VP assassination plot case put on pending

Maldives Police Service has decided to pend the case of apparent assassination conspiracy targeted at the former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.

An advocate representing Adeeb at court had tweeted on Tuesday night confirming that Police has decided to file the case due to lack of information or evidence.

Police had stated that the lack of support from the former VP's advocate team has restrained proceedings in the case to determine possible conspirators of the apparent plot. The authority also had mentioned that insufficient information about the issue renders it useless for a criminal case lodged at a court of law - as per Prosecutor General's office.

Adeeb's lawyer, Moosa Siraaj had refuted the statement claiming that full cooperation was provided however they had refrained from disclosing the personal and contact details of the source - who had provided them with the news of the assassination conspiracy.

Former VP's advocate team had filed the case at Police earlier this year in June and requested from the authority to conduct investigation into the issue. A direct letter to Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef, had also requested to pace up the probing.
