Former Home Minister has attracted severe criticism from major opposing Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) while had also confirmed he would not take part in any MDP initiated activity.
While MDP has been adamant about their disapproval of Umar Naseer - the former Home Minister - in the anti-government movement, Naseer had also remained headstrong about his stance of support to Qasim Ibrahim as presidency candidate or he, himself would run for office if the JP leader cannot.
Naseer spoke with Avas Online to confirm his stand against MDP stating that he had decided his political affiliation long back. The former Home Minister had said that he would not attend JP-MDP collaborated events.
Naseer had furthermore said that while he has pledged his allegiance and support to Qasim Ibrahim's JP, he does not believe in participating or agreeing to the party's every decision or move.
Meanwhile MDP's Chairperson Hassan Latheef had affirmed they would not allow any outside influence or attacks to undermine the party's stand and its conduct. Latheef criticized Naseer adding the party would not entertain any impending attempts of Naseer to sabotage MDP's conduct or progress.
Umar Naseer had not reciprocated Latheef's stern remarks.
While its no surprise Naseer is generally disliked by members of MDP for his continued verbal feud against its leader Mohamed Nasheed and members. Party sympathizers had since gone to social platforms to express their chagrin and disapproval of Naseer's recent allegiance to JP.
Naseer had affirmed that he stands with Qasim Ibrahim and will extend assistance in any manner possible to elect the JP leader as the coalition backed candidate for 2018 presidential run.
Furthermore the tension between JP members had intensified with some of its members against Umar Naseer's decision to enter the party. Qasim Ibrahim's message gives more backing to the situation as the leader had prohibited party members to refrain from sending hate messages against Umar Naseer inside party affairs.
While he reigned at Home Ministry, Naseer spoke to Avas Online and said the though he may disagree with incumbent president and his administration and is seen on the political platform representing opposite ideologies, he would not be banding together with former president Mohamed Nasheed or his party.
He also challenged MDP and called out to not expect Naseer to take up ranks in the party that parliamentarians such as Mahloof or former vice president Jameel took.
