MP directs criticism to former Home Min over political stand

A Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) affiliated parliamentarian has directed stern criticism on former Home Minister Umar Naseer over his political stand.

Mariya Ahmed Didi, who represents the north-Machhangolhi constituency at parliament said the former Home Minister Naseer lacks tolerance in working in a political party system.

Didi's comments come amid MDP general members and party elites expressing their strong disapproval of Umar Naseer's recent allegiance to Jumhoory Party - which is headed by Villa Group owner Qasim Ibrahim - and his negative remarks at MDP's leadership and the party's conduct.

According to the politician Naseer's stand against participating in MDP initiated events comes as vivid proof that he lacks the comprehension of working in a multi-party movement while both MDP and JP are acting together in coalition.

Didi, who had been a former Chairperson of MDP had also expressed her disapproval of Umar Naseer's involvement in the anti-government movement led by united alliance of the opposition. Meanwhile several key members of MDP had claimed they would not collaborate with Naseer in any coalition activities.

Similarly the former Home Minister had made it clear that he was uninterested in joining hands with MDP - which comes from a long running 'personal' feud between himself and MDP leadership as Naseer is a strong advocate against the largest opposition party's leader and former president Mohamed Nasheed.

However JP's deputy leader Abdulla Riyaz had acted as a voluntary 'balm' to dissolve the otherwise intensifying situation as he had assured Naseer's involvement with JP would not sabotage or hinder the joint-party conduct neither would MDP face setbacks over it.

Naseer had affirmed that he stands with Qasim Ibrahim and will extend assistance in any manner possible to elect the JP leader as the coalition backed candidate for 2018 presidential run.
