Maldives Corrections Service has informed the former Vice President of Maldives Ahmed Adeeb of his request for house arrest has been denied.
The ex-VP's advocate Moosa Siraaj had made official requests from Corrections authority to transfer Adeeb to house arrest due to severe ailments associated to his optics. Adeeb was diagnosed with cataract and glaucoma.
A transition to house arrest was requested due to doctors' reiteration of shifting the ex-VP to a cleaner environment free of soot and dusts.
Corrections had since then sent a letter to Adeeb's advocate Siraaj explaining the reason for denying a house arrest order on ex-VP, detailing the condition do not fit into the parole regulations.
Adeeb is currently at Dhoonidhoo jail under police custody while his advocate had requested from the authority for a release from the penitentiary to house arrest.
The former Vice President who is currently doing time for his alleged involvement in a plot to assassinate the incumbent president - was found guilty earlier and stamped with a 33 year sentence. Apart from being diagnosed with optics-related ailments, Adeeb had furthermore, been diagnosed with a cyst in his body as well as stones formed in his kidney which doctors had since advised requires immediate medical attention.
Earlier this year a request was made to authorities for seeking medical attention of ex-VP from abroad. However it was ardently denied by state claiming the former second in command would be able to travel abroad after settling the money which he was alleged to have embezzled from Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) through shady deals and transactions.
Surprisingly he had not been attached to any official lawsuits claiming for the money.
