State owes money to the head of the state

President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has claimed that he had not embezzled or bamboozled any money off the government.

However the state owes him money, according to a recent statement the head of the state made.

The money state owes to incumbent president comes as damages ordered by court for the unwilling detention of Abdulla Yameen under Mohamed Nasheed's administration under the pretext of providing safety.

President Yameen made his statement amid opposition criticism on him as he attempted to clear the misconception. He stated that under his administration no one was a victim of unlawful or corrupt detention and political prisoners were jailed with their due crime and conviction uncovered - and post trials.

He also defended stating that he did not influence the judicial system nor the president's office was responsible of issuing specific arrest orders on individuals.

The bold statements of president Abdulla Yameen came during the closing ceremony of land reclamation project at Baa atoll Eydhafushi, where he said the opposition had directed harsh criticism on his administration due to his undeterred resolve to bring opposition party elites found guilty of misdeeds and misconducts.

He also assured that none of the high-profiled detainees were arrested under arbitrary conditions and all the cases tried against such prominent figures had passed through proper judicial channel. He recommended to take the cases up to appellate courts.

President Abdulla Yameen assured that he has always been willing to work alongside individuals of varying beliefs and principles and would do so in the future as well, however he said he would not stay idle while his opposition attempts to "put nails on his coffin."
