PPM PG leader directs strong criticism at ex-Prez Nasheed

Parliamentary Group leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Vilimale' constituency member Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik had fired 'verbal rounds' at former president Mohamed Nasheed.

According to the parliamentarian the two former heads of state Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Nasheed cannot find common grounds in their attempt to work together - stating the results are stark in present as well.

Nihan pointed out Nasheed's anecdote of opposition members in jail during 2004 tsunami crisis, was a direct jab against Gayoom.

"... he [Nasheed] has once again started his verbal jousts against Gayoom so how can we expect them to join hands together to find common grounds," Nihan said.

The Vilimale member had furthermore criticized both former heads of the state claiming they failed to provide proper assistance and aid to the tsunami victims under their respective administrations. Nihan's strong rebuff came right after both Gayoom and Nasheed sent video-messages regarding the devastating 2004 tsunami to mark the National Unity Day.

Furthermore Nihan reiterated the state's confirmation about Nasheed branded ineligible for presidency in 2018 elections.

The self-exiled former president Nasheed fled Maldives without completing one-fourth of his jail sentence, which is the minimum requirement for a state ordered pardon.

During his interview in Channel 13 program on Wednesday night, Nihan had defended the recently inked free trade agreement with China - that has directed strong opposition criticism - as he explained such agreements have been long in practice between countries and it would prove beneficial to Maldives.
