Reps elected for singular candidate nomination discussion

A pair of representatives from each of the opposition allied parties have been elected to take part in the discussion to nominate the possible presidential candidate for 2018.

Although several prominent opposition figures have expressed their opinion of electing one mutually coincided or agreed candidate for the 2018 presidential election, official talks had not kicked-off.

Parties of the United Opposition Alliance had thus elected two representatives from each party to participate in a joint-party discussion to nominate a mutually agreed candidate.

Prime opposition party, Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) is represented by its Chairperson Hassan Latheef and its parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Jumhoory Party representatives are found in its deputy leader Abdulla Riyaz and Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan. While the defected PPM faction led by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is represented by his daughter Yumna Maumoon and Aminath Nadhira, who was elected by Gayoom himself as PPM's deputy leader.

Adaalath Party's Shidhaatha Shareef will be taking part in the discussion along with the party's Secretary General as representatives.

Opposition is expected to make an official announcement on Sunday post the discussions.
