Land reclamation for Kulhudhuffushi airport concludes

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has successfully concluded the land reclamation project initiated at Kulhudhuffushi last year.

The reclamation project was carried out by government based transport and construction related corporation under the initial stages of developing an airstrip in the island. An official corroborated the news stating a total of 9 hectors were reclaimed from the island's vast mangrove area and another six hector from the adjoining shoreline vicinity.

Earlier MTCC had confirmed the development and construction of the runway over the reclaimed area will start next.

The company's prized investment, their 90+ meter hopper suction dredger 'Mahaa Jarraaf' reached Kulhudhuffushi in its maiden journey to Maldives and almost immediately commenced the land reclamation project.

MTCC was stamped with a 180 completion period and they commenced the project in November 2017. The project was handed by the state to MTCC for a cost of MVR 53.4 million.
