Case lodged claiming settlement from JP leader's company

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has filed a case against Villa Group leader Qasim Ibrahim's Villa Shipping claiming to settle payments due.

With a total of 3 cases filed against the company, MIRA confirms that the Villa company is subjected to settle more than MVR 75 million to state.

First case filed against the Jumhoory Party leader Qasim Ibrahim's Villa Shipping include MVR 7.4 million as settlement for the failure to submit Goods and Service Tax (GST) report before due as well as the taxed amount. The other case claims MVR 49 million which Qasim Ibrahim's company failed to settle to MIRA as Tourism Goods and Service Tax (TGST) as well as failure of submitting the tax forms before due.

Villa Shipping is also tried for failing to present the GRT amount of MVR 18.5 million as well as the non-submission of the relevant forms to MIRA before due.

While Qasim Ibrahim's Villa Shipping will be facing state's latest attempt to claim for settlements, five of his companies were previously tried at court for similar cases. The previous cases are still proceeding at Civil Court with the state claiming more than MVR 2.5 billion from Ibrahim's Villa Group companies.

At a time when Qasim Ibrahim's companies are facing the prime taxation authority, the Jumhoory Party leader is residing at Germany for medical treatment.

Qasim Ibrahim was found guilty for grafting over the no-confidence motion placed against parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh. He was sentenced with a three jail term.

The JP leader first flew to Singapore for medical emergencies which was strongly recommended by his consulting doctors, however post his checkups from the country he flew to Germany without consent of relevant local authorities.
