Maldives academic year has officially commenced on Sunday January 14 after a lengthy 2 month school holiday period.
Academic year of 2018 started with more than 75,000 students packing their bags to schools, while they were welcomed by their respective schools in grandeur fashion.
Unlike most of the years past, this year has been regarded as significant due to the technological advancements the Maldives Education Ministry has been planning to introduce to the education sector.
Earlier in 2017 Education Ministry had unraveled plans to digitize the conventional pen and book method of teaching and studying by replacing the students' hands with tablets instead of notebooks.
Another noteworthy aspect of 2018 comes as the hefty renovation works many of the schools underwent with Male' based Aminiya School noted highly as the school welcomes its students to a new building with the older structure up for renovation and construction.
The first academic term of 2018 will run from January 14 til June 7, lasting for 98 days while the second term will commence on June 18 with it's mid-term breaking coming in August 19 which would last til August 23. Second academic term will consist of 105 teaching days.
The academic year of 2018 will conclude in November 22 as per the academic calender released for the year.
