Deposed lawmakers request meeting with top-court judges

A group of the allegedly deposed lawmakers had requested separate appointments from each representing judges of Supreme Court regarding the conflict ridden case of their parliament seat 'eviction.'

Six out of the 12 disqualified parliamentarians had visited the top-court seeking appointments with the court's judges separately to discuss the issue.

Post visiting Supreme Court requesting for appointments the allegedly disqualified lawmakers' group had spoken with the media present at the venue. Saud Hussain, the Elections Commission claimed disqualified member of parliament representing Vilingili constituency said their motive behind requesting meetings with Supreme Court judges was to discuss and reach towards a solid resolve regarding the massively confused issue of anti-defection law and EC's claims of them losing their seats at the parliament.

Hussain asserted that the top court had assured the members they will be contacted after arranging meetings with the judges.

Another motive behind the lawmakers' visiting top court was to exact a clarity on the immensely confusing ruling by the court regarding the anti-defection clause.

Post the 12 members were slammed with the 'disqualification' order by Elections Commission over their defection and floor-crossing, parliament had proceeded in their absence.
