Official construction of three towers at second phase zone of Hulhumale' by Maldives Ports Limited has commenced.
In a ceremony held on Monday the tower construction for MPL was inaugurated by Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed.
MPL's tower project is the first under government initiated 'Hiyaa' housing scheme to have officially kicked off under a government owned company's banner.
All three towers by Maldives Ports will be elevated to 14 stories. Each tower will include 204 single room apartments and 330 three room apartments with a total of 534 rooms. MPL has assigned the construction and development of the project to a Singaporean company.
The developer must complete the project's first phase within 8 months.
Chief Executive of MPL Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem said during the inauguration ceremony that all three towers will be completed by 2019 with accommodation provided to more than 3000 people.
Haleem also noted that apartments will be allocated to MPL staffs through a lenient procedure with employees receiving accommodation from the towers based on project completion pace.
The mega housing project by government will see the development and construction of 36 towers in Hulhumale' second phase zone, which would provide accommodation for well over 100,000 people.
