No unrest in Police department; Police Media Official

Police Media Official has claimed the Maldives Police Service is not riddled with unrest and clash among its officers and the entire department is operating under the supervision of Police Commissioner Ahmed Areef.

Shifan made the public statement following CP Areef getting tossed aside on Ahmed Faris Maumoon's current probe with Deputy Commissioner taking charge of the entire investigation.

Police Media Official had furthermore confirmed that CP Areef maintained his authority at the department and was filling the designation with his full consent.

Shifan added that usual conduct on high profile cases always follow through special teams and similarly Faris Maumoon's case was 're-assigned' to DCP Saudhee and ACP Ahmed Mohamed.

The Police Media Official had not given a direct answer to the query raised if preceding investigations regarding MP Maumoon was assigned to special probe teams.

A senior level officer of Maldives Police Service who spoke earlier regarding the case affirmed that CP Areef was inadvertently removed from authority over the Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker's and in his stead DCP Saudhee was directed to run the investigation.

The officer remarked that the Police Commissioner retained no command on the particular case's proceedings.

Before his sudden arrest, Maumoon had met with local media and stated he was met with Commissioner Areef who had warned him of the government's attempt to arrest the lawmaker once again. According to Maumoon, Areef had claimed the incumbent President Yameen Abdul Gayoom had personally ordered elite political individuals and authorities to see the arrest of Faris Maumoon go through.
