Maldives establishes embassy in Thailand

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has established an embassy in Thailand, president's office revealed Thursday.

President Yameen has established a Maldivian Embassy in Thailand, effective on 30 January 2018, the president's office said in a statement adding that it would be administered by the foreign ministry.

According to the president's office, the embassy was established in an effort to increase the Maldives’ presence in the international arena, as part of the Maldives’ foreign policy; to further enhance ties between the Maldives and Thailand and to open more investment and business related opportunities in both countries.

The parliament had in July last year approved government aligned Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) leader Mohamed Nasheed as the ambassador to Thailand. President Yameen however, is yet to present Nasheed his letter of credentials.
