Over 100 Thailand nationals in the Maldives were repatriated to their country on Monday.
The Thailand Consulate in the Maldives said 131 people were repatriated to Thailand in a chartered flight arranged by the consulate and the Maldivian Embassy in Thailand. This is the second evacuation facilitated for Thai nationals due to the COVID-19 pandemic
The Maldivian borders were closed in March as a precautionary measure against COVID-19, which left a large number of foreigners, including tourists and expatriates stranded in the Maldives. The governments of their respective countries have been arranging repatriation flights to evacuate them.
