DJA lifts suspension on top opposition lawyers

Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has revoked suspension orders on six opposition aligned renowned lawyers.

Moments earlier DJA had released a public statement confirming the revoke on suspension of Mariya Ahmed Didi; north-Macchangolhi MP, Ali Hussain; Kendhoo lawmaker, advocates Hussain Mahfooz, Anas Abdul Sattar, Imthiyaz Fahmy; north-Maafannu representative at parliament and Hassan Latheef; Maldives Democratic Party's (MDP) chairperson.

The statement confirmed the suspension orders on the mentioned advocates were rescinded post conclusion of probing on each of their cases individually. Additionally the statement had included suspension revoke update of famed legal expert and former Attorney General (AG) Husnu Suood.

DJA moved to suspend a total of 54 advocates on September 10, 2017. The lawyers were slapped with temporary suspension orders on their licenses to practice following a petition filed at Supreme Court, urging immediate amendments to the judicial procedure of Maldives.

Earlier on several lawmakers who suffered suspension orders following their 'stunt' had been granted revokes.
