Two Agence France-Presse (AFP) reporters have been arrested on Friday at the capital city; Male' of Maldives.
Maldives Police Service claims two reporters who gained access to the country against local Immigration policies were apprehended and handed over to the latter to send them off to their homeland.
Authorities have identified the AFP reporters to be British and Indian nationalities.
Asian News International confirms the arrested Indian national has been identified as one Moni Sharma, from Amristar, Punjab of India while the other has been identified as a Brit of Indian descent named Rajiv Patel.
Both Sharma and Patel work for the internationally recognized news agency as photojournalists.
They flew in to Maldives on Tuesday amid the ongoing political strife in the Indian Ocean archipelago.
