Maldives authorities have requested public support in the manhunt of Dhan'gethi constituency lawmaker Ilham Ahmed, post the public announcement made earlier.
Maldives Police Service had announced they were looking for the MP regarding an ongoing investigation under the economic crime department. However the authority had not disclosed the nature or details of the investigation.
The defected lawmaker was in self-exile following the no-confidence motion of parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh, in which he presented the signature supporting it.
Authorities issued the manhunt on the lawmaker on Friday, following his release earlier by Criminal Court when he was apprehended immediately after stepping in Maldives soil.
Police had warranted a manhunt on south-Machchangolhi lawmaker Abdulla Sinan earlier as well. The two lawmakers flew to Maldives at the same time.
Since the manhunt for Sinan was announced by authorities he had turned himself over to Maldives Police moments later.
Both lawmakers were released by Criminal Court from their initial arrest, post the February 1 Supreme Court order.
Earlier Elections Commission had declared the MPs were deposed as per the anti-defection law, however the Maldives top-court had annulled the law reinstating the dozen lawmakers including both Sinan and Ahmed.
