Former police commissioner Ahmed Areef has been slapped with a travel ban by Maldives government.
Areef who was unceremoniously terminated from held designation on February 2, moments after the Supreme Court ordered the release of nine political dissidents - which was issued on late hours of Thursday, February 1.
The former police chief has been slapped with a travel ban this week while authorities including both police and immigration department have not been available to comment regarding it.
Authorities claim the former police chief was sacked from his responsibility after failing to answer multiple calls from president Abdulla Yameen, who contacted to instruct necessary action regarding the top-court ruling.
Before his abrupt termination, Maldives Police confirmed the authority will be respecting the top-court ruling and will implement it accordingly.
