NIC member approval, parliament sitting resume on Mon

People's Majilis' - local parliament - sitting for 2018 term will commence on Monday with the evaluation of National Integrity Commission (NIC) nominees on top agenda during the sitting.

On Monday's sitting the parliament will discuss and assess the names incumbent president Abdulla Yameen had nominated to represented the NIC board. Following deliberation the names will be handed over to the special committee for further evaluation to derive successful nominees.

Furthermore the assessment of president nominated name of Ibrahim Uwais, as the new ambassador to Japan is placed on agenda for Monday's sitting.

The parliament for 2018 commenced officially on Wednesday night following the presidential address at Dharubaaruge.

Initially the parliament was slated to commence during the first week of February, however parliament Speaker postponed the event due to ongoing political strife following the February 1 order by Maldives apex court.

Two special sittings took place before the official parliament term commenced, to cast vote on president requested motion of extending the state of emergency by 30 additional days.

While the parliament sittings are set to commence on Monday, earlier in the month Maldives Supreme Court had annulled the anti-defection law thus reinstating 12 lawmakers who were previously deposed according the country's election watchdog.

The dozen lawmakers were initially invited for the parliament's special sitting however, the apex court had moved to halt the order regarding the anti-defection law on advice of attorney general.
