'Packaged' waste to disposal site Thilafushi

Environment Ministry has confirmed the waste transfer station at Male' - prior to its transportation to disposal site - will be developed to improve the site's aesthetics, adding the completion of the said phase will result in 'packaged' waste transfer from Male' to Thilafushi.

Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim has confirmed the design works for the new waste transfer station has already concluded with the construction works all set to commence in March.

In his interview Minister Thoriq highlighted the operational benefits from the new waste transfer station, adding that a similar station will be enacted at satellite town - Hulhumale'.

Government had assigned the waste management of Greater Male' region to Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) in attempts to better manage and operate the disposal of junk and garbage. The operation initially commenced in Maldives' capital had since expanded to the atolls with more atolls expected under further expansion plans..
