Maldives Police Service on Sunday claimed that the authorities have only a single demonstrator left in their custody from the protestors arrested earlier.
In a tweet the authority claimed that a total of 48 demonstrators were arrested for disobeying police instructions and clear obstruction out of which 47 were "promptly released." They had not disclosed the identity or the reason behind the remaining lone protestor's detention.
Opposition supporters and activists have constantly rallied at prominent Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) camp since the Supreme Court order on February 1, while officers of Maldives Police Service intervened the gatherings almost every night resulting in some level of confrontations.
Over the course of the ongoing protests, authorities had arrested several demonstrators amid the face-offs between the supporters and officers. However they were released almost immediately after apprehension.
Prominent leaders arrested by authorities include Jumhoory Party's deputy leader Abdulla Riyaz and south-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof - who were brought into custody during previous rallies. They have not been released, according to their respective advocates.
The opposition leaders were informed they were arrested under the powers vested to authority during state of emergency.
