Gayoom's advocate ordered court summon

One of the advocates representing former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been ordered to appear at Criminal Court on Wednesday.

Lawyer Mohamed Faisal has been ordered to make his appearance at the court by 14:30hrs on Wednesday regarding an alleged controversial interview with reporters.

Faisal on Tuesday had spoken with local media expressing his concerns about the Criminal Court's treatment on his client.

According to the advocate his client former president Gayoom was kept at the premises of Criminal Court for more than six hours without him getting the privilege to meet his lawyers. After waiting for a significant time, court had announced Gayoom's trial for Tuesday was cancelled.

Faisal had described this as mistreatment against Gayoom while addressing about the events of Tuesday regarding the court progress.

Gayoom is also expected to make appearance at the court on Wednesday afternoon regarding his remand.

The former head of state is tried for the act of terrorism for his alleged direct ties of attempting to overthrow the current government.

In addition to this Gayoom is also prosecuted at the court for attempting to intervene legal conduct.
