Maldives government has decided to allocate flats from Hulhumale' to 256 households of west-Maafannu district of Male'.
The government's aim for allocating alternatives for shelter to these household comes from the initiative to re-develop the district.
Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had noted the tenants living in these households are mainly migrants from several atolls. He added the condition of these shelters are below acceptable levels of safety and standard.
Housing minister also added that these tenants mainly include individuals who cannot afford make settlements to the state in order to obtain flats from Hulhumale' - the developing sister town to capital Male' city.
State has aimed to evacuate the west-Maafannu portion of the capital by providing the civilians living in the area with alternatives.
Under "Male' block redevelopment" the government aims to reconstruct the specified area of the capital city and replace old and weary buildings with modern structures with the inclusion of recreational sites such as parks.
The citizens living in the mentioned area will be receiving shelter from the 7000 housing units at Hulhumale' that are currently under development.
Housing minister had confirmed the window to apply for the housing scheme will be opened shortly with the flat winners announced at the end of August. Dr. Muizzu also included the flat winners will receive official documents confirming as such, however expressed uncertainty if the civilians would be able to shift to these apartments within the current year.
