The tabled trial hearing of Kin'bidhoo MP and Jumhoory Party deputy leader Abdulla Riyaz has been cancelled on Monday.
The former commissioner of police is tried for the offense of influencing legal constitutional conduct. While he was arrested during an opposition led protest under the state of emergency, criminal court had recently ordered his remand until the case is concluded.
The lawmaker's advocate had notified the hearing scheduled for Monday has been cancelled on request of prosecutor general, however they have not been informed of the exact reason for requesting the cancellation.
Meanwhile both his family and representing advocates raised concern regarding his remand order by court.
Criminal court ordered Riyaz's detention under correctional authority until his trial concludes in absence of his lawyers. In addition to this, his detention was informed to family only after the proceedings concluded.
The opposition leader's wife in a recent letter to prosecutor general had requested to appeal his case at court.
