Police award 'hero' cop for saving child's life

Police on Wednesday bestowed a special award for the traffic police officer who had saved a child's life in the capital Male.

Acting police chief Abdulla Nawaz was pictured handing the special award to Lance Corporal Mohamed Rifau who had been hailed as a 'super-hero' by the grateful mother of the child he had saved.

The mother Fathimath Shifna had been stuck in traffic while rushing her four year old to the hospital who had suffered a seizure.

Shifna wrote on her Facebook page that Rifau had heard her cries for help and had carried the child on his shoulder to the hospital.

The post had gone viral as the public showered praise on the officer while dubbing him as role model for the entire police department.
